Although health insurance is NOT required for F-1 visa students enrolling at House of Tutors, we do strongly recommend that students obtain health insurance coverage during their stay in the US. Medical costs for unexpected illness, accidents, injuries, and hospitalization can be very high. Upon request, House of Tutors can provide students with information about companies that offer health insurance to international students.
Insurance plans vary in coverage and cost. When choosing a plan, please be aware of the following:
- Premium: the cost of coverage for the specified period of time
- Deductibles: annual amount one must pay before insurance coverage begins
- Co-Payments: percentage of a bill for which one is responsible
- Exclusions for items such as maternity costs, mental-health care, and pre-existing conditions
- Coverage of preventive care
- Limits on the maximum payment the insurer will make
