There are many beautiful state parks where you can go camping or hiking. Austin has thirty miles of urban “Hike and Bike” trails where you can go bike riding, running or strolling around Town Lake. Barton Springs is a famous Austin landmark in Zilker Park. You can swim in a spring-fed pool, have picnics, and visit the children’s playground. For other water sports, visit Lake Austin or Lake Travis for sailing, water-skiing or boating.
The Greenbelt Trails offer the best opportunity for mountain-biking in the city. Check out the Shoal Creek and Barton Creek Trails. These two trails connect with the Town Lake Greenbelt trail to provide over 20 miles of natural surface and granite gravel biking and hiking paths.
Camping opportunities near Austin include Enchanted Rock (75 miles west of Fredericksburg, TX), Bastrop State Park (30 miles east of Austin), and Colorado Bend State Park (90 miles NW of Austin).
